Everyone has their own view of what healthy looks like. We are constantly growing and changing as women and trying to keep up with life the best that we can. I really wanted to write a post about what being healthy looks like and how it actually feels and I have called on some of my friends in the health industry to comment on what healthy looks like to them.
These women are out there supporting, offering information and inspiring women everyday to choose the healthiest way to live that suits their lifestyle and their uniqueness. So I hope that this post inspires you to get connected to what it truly means to be healthy in body, mind and spirit.
For me healthy means:Â
Respecting and caring for your body in a compassionate and loving way. This entails fuelling the body with whole real foods. Not too much but not too little and indulging in the odd treat which nourishes the soul and gives you pleasure. In terms of exercise I belive we should move the body in a way that suits our nature and personality. To never take things too far or punish the body beyond its means. To never stick to a rigid routine but everyday listen to your body, connect to it and see how it feels and move in a way that feels good for you on that day.
Healthy means not being judgemental to yourself but loving yourself through the tough times, through the mistakes that you make. We are only human and we will make mistakes. It’s about forgiveness and noticing that you are doing your best and that is all you can do. Being healthy means allowing your body rest, relaxation and enjoying pleasurable experiences. To never listen to the negative voice in your head that is telling you destructive self loathing thoughts. To believe that you are worthy of love, laughter, happiness, respect because you are a strong woman and nobody and nothing should ever take that away from you.
To never do something or be someone because you feel you have to. You have a choice. This is your life and you have the power to be who you want to be, to do what you want to do and live the way you want to live. To choose love over fear in every situation and to strive for balance in all areas of your life. In body, mind and spirit. That to me is what healthy truly looks like.
Now lets hear what the girls have to say on the matter
‘For me, health is being at peace with myself. Having the ability to live in the moment without a second thought or any doubt. Health isn’t and shouldn’t be food-focussed. Maintaining a balanced lifestyle gives you the ability to indulge and have fun without suffocating yourself with empty diet promises and superficial, shallow goals. The day that I ditched the diets and swapped them for realistic goals and a passion for health, my life finally began falling into place. Health isn’t numbers, diet plans, meal prepping or gruelling workouts. Health is loving yourself first, from the inside out. Smiling because you truly mean it and being surrounded by people you love — helping you to be the best version of you.’ Hannah Darvas (Food Blogger)
Healthy to me is someone who is comfortable in their skin, understands the strengths and weaknesses of their body and enjoys their life to the maximum without overeating, underrating, over exercising or binging. I love to train my clients to feel incredible and to treat fitness like Yoga, you are always striving for improvement and progression, there are no boundaries and nothing is wrong or right, if you feel it, then it’s working.

Being Healthy is all about happiness, living a healthy lifestyle is not just eating healthy food although that is key. Also exercising, sleeping enough, drinking enough water and not depriving yourself of anything. For me healthy is all about being balanced, as that’s when you are happiest.

Health is Happiness, to me nothing can be healthier than being able to enjoy life and the company of others. Our minds, bodies and soul need to be healthy before they can be fulfilled. As a nutritionist, I believe in nourishing our bodies and not depriving it from the fuel it needs to function optimally, it is for this reason I do not believe in fad diets. Lets enjoy real food and embrace what this earth can give us 🙂 After all we are what we eat!
Rhiannon Lambert (Nutritionist)
“To me health is so much more than how you look on the outside. Sure – having glowing skin, shiny hair and a flat stomach is nice but it’s not the be all and end all. Health is about enjoying your training, eating a variety of nutrient dense foods and most importantly it’s about your inner balance and happiness”
Zanna van Dijk (Personal Trainer & Nutrition Consultant)
“For me, to be healthy is to be happy in all aspects of my life. Even though I’m a huge fitness fan and I love to workout to stay in shape, being healthy is more about the mind and how you think. Keeping fit is just a small part of it, along with eating healthy, being mindful, being grateful and doing what you love.”
Cat Meffan (Fitness Blogger)
Health can relate to your body, your mind and your spirit. To me, being ‘healthy’ means being content with your lifestyle. If you’re in a great place with a positive mindset, you’re healthy! Today we focus too much on the food aspects of health and often forget about the other factors such as the mind in determining how healthy a person is. Health should not be a singular defined term, but instead it should encompass the entirety of a person. Charlotte Beer (Food Blogger)
Thank you so much girls for your inspiring words. It seems to me when we take into consideration all of the comments we come back to this ONE very important fact:
In the comments below. Tell me. What does healthy look like to you?Â
