3 Breakfast Smoothie Recipes

November 3, 2014

If you follow me on Instagram you will know that I am a sucker for a breakfast smoothie.

They are so quick and easy to prepare that there is no excuse not to start your day off with a nutritious breakfast. You can keep it as simple as you want or go a bit crazy by adding some superfoods into the mix.
Eating within an hour of waking up boosts your metabolism and gets your blood sugar and energy levels stable so you start your day off on the right foot. This only occurs though if you eat a breakfast packed full of protein and healthy fats.

So put down the sugary laden store bought granola and wizz up one of these smoothies. I mostly use the same base ingredients and then switch certain ingredients up so it doesn’t have to be expensive or boring.

Vanilla Banana Bliss

Ingredients

• 1 cup Alpro unsweetened almond milk
• 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I used Sunwarrior)
• 1/2 frozen banana
• 1 tbsp chia seeds

Blend and then top with what you like. I went for cacao nibs, frozen blueberries and banana and some juicy goji berries.

Green Machine Smoothie

Ingredients

• 1 cup Alpro unsweetened almond milk
• Handful spinach
• Handful kale
• 1/2 frozen banana
• 1 tbsp chia seeds
• 1 tbsp flaxseed
• 1 date
• 1 tsp cinnamon

Blend and top with more chia seeds and cinnamon. Cinnamon is the most amazing spice for controlling blood sugar levels, insulin resistance and fat burning.

The Energiser Smoothie

Ingredients

• 1 cup Alpro unsweetened almond milk
• 1/2 frozen banana
• 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I used Sunwarrior)
• 1 tbsp Linwoods mix (flax, sunflower, pumpkin, sesame seeds and goji)
• 2 tbsp oats
• 1 tsp Organic Bust maca powder
• 1 tsp cinnamon

Blend and top with some cacao nibs for added crunchy chocolatey goodness and sprinkle with cinnamon.

Maca is amazing for endurance and energy and the added oats in this smoothie will give you a long lasting release of energy while the cinnamon will stabilise your blood sugar. This smoothie is perfect pre workout.
